Willa Vennema is a Maine encaustic artist whose luminous, layered surfaces blur the line between painting and improvisation. Working with molten beeswax, damar crystals, and pigment, Willa Vennema builds compositions through spontaneous layering, scraping, and embedding — creating works that feel as alive and changeable as the coastal landscapes that inspire them.

Rooted in a creative life that began with music at the High School of Performing Arts in New York and deepened through studies at Oberlin College and Cooper Union, she brings a rare depth of artistic formation to a medium that demands presence over planning. Represented by Portland Art Gallery, Willa Vennema's work captures light, motion, and memory in surfaces that continue to evolve long after the wax has cooled.
