James Bonner is a Maine realist painter whose luminous, layered works capture the quiet power of place, patience, and restraint. Drawn to the coast of Maine by a search for light and simplicity, James Bonner has spent decades building a practice rooted in close observation, technical rigor, and a deep reverence for the artists who walked these landscapes before him.

 

Working across oil, acrylic, egg tempera, and drybrush watercolor on smooth birch panels, he builds images slowly through translucent layers — each surface glowing from within, each composition distilled to its most essential elements.
