Title: Built to Last: New Modular Paintings by Greg Day

In Built to Last, Maine-based artist Greg Day presents a new body of work that reflects his background in architecture and engineering while keeping a strong focus on material and process. Working primarily in acrylic, polymer, epoxy resin, and 3D printed elements on wood panel, Day develops his paintings through a modular system of 12 x 16 inch formats that expand into larger compositions, including Knightsbridge (32 x 48 in) and several 32 x 24 inch works such as Sherbourne, Broadwater, and Redston. Each piece begins with a digitally designed grid that provides structure, but the surface evolves through layering, sanding, wiping, and rebuilding. The result is work that feels carefully constructed yet open and responsive.

Day’s use of 3D printing plays an important role in shaping both surface and depth, introducing subtle relief and physical dimension that shifts with changing light. The smaller 16 x 12 inch paintings from his 3D series highlight this hands-on, build-and-rebuild approach on a more intimate scale. Inspired by the visual rhythms of rural Maine, city streets, and architectural space, these paintings balance order and experimentation. This exhibition offers collectors of contemporary abstract painting, mixed media art, and Maine artists a clear view into Day’s process-driven practice—where structure, technology, and material come together in thoughtful, wall-mounted works.
